Overview

The church of Agios Mamas is situated in the heart of the village, on a hill from which it can be seen from almost the entirety of the village. The church, according to its features as well as numerous testimonies, was constructed during the 18th century. The altar, which is separate from the rest of the church and the iconostasis, is circular on the inside and rectangular on the outside, in contrast to the rest of the architectural design of the church which is of rectangular shape. The church does not have a separate bell tower as the bell is placed in the outer part of the church, in the triangle formed between the roof and the outer cross. The preschool children of Korakou have imbued the church's surroundings with a burst of verdant beauty, as they meticulously nurtured the planting of vibrant flowers and lush trees, crafting a picturesque garden for all to admire. The most notable of the church's icons is the icon of Agios Mamas, hagiographed by a 15th century Constantinopolitan hagiographer. This particular icon is kept in the Metropolis of Morphou in Evrychou. St. Mamas is under the care of the Department of Antiquities. Along with the preservation of the wall, other necessary sections are being restored.
